If you’ve never experienced a run at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, this is your sign to add it to your list. And if it’s been a while, consider this your invitation to get back out there and take in one of San Diego’s most iconic trail settings.

Torrey Pines offers a trail experience that’s hard to match, a blend of coastal singletrack, rolling dirt paths, and short climbs, all set against sweeping ocean views. It’s the kind of place where every mile feels different, whether you’re cruising along the bluffs or working your way up a climb with the Pacific in the background.

For first-time runners, the trail system is approachable and easy to explore, with loop options that let you tailor your run to your comfort level. For those returning, Torrey Pines always delivers something new, a different route, a stronger effort on the climbs, or the chance to extend your run down to the beach.

Whether you’ve never set foot on these trails or it’s been a while since your last run, Daley Ranch is the kind of place that welcomes every runner back with open miles and endless route options.

Best Parking & Access

  • North Beach Lot (Free): Ideal for runners with direct access to both the beach and trail connections

  • State Reserve Lot (Paid): Closest access to upper trails inside the reserve

  • Gliderport (Free): Great starting point for longer runs and access to the Torrey Pines Extension

Estimated Mileage Options

  • Trail Loops Only: 3 to 5 miles (short loops) | Up to 6–8 miles combining trails

  • With Beach Running: 4 to 6 miles (loop options) | Up to ~8–10+ miles with extended out-and-back along the shoreline

Torrey Pines is more than just a run, it’s a reminder of what makes trail running in San Diego so special. Ocean air, incredible views, and terrain that keeps you engaged from start to finish
