Looking for a trail system that combines runnable terrain, challenging climbs, and some of the best views in Mission Trails? It’s time to explore the trails surrounding the East Fortuna Staging Area inside Mission Trails Regional Park. Whether it’s your first time running out of East Fortuna or you’re heading back for more miles, this area offers one of the most versatile trail experiences in San Diego.

The East Fortuna trail network gives runners a little bit of everything, rolling fire roads, rocky singletrack, steep climbs, and wide-open ridgeline views. Compared to the busier South Fortuna stair routes, the East Fortuna side often feels quieter and more remote, making it a favorite for runners looking to put in uninterrupted miles and solid elevation work.

For first-timers, the East Fortuna area is a great introduction to the more rugged side of Mission Trails. The route options allow you to customize your effort, whether you’re looking for a shorter climb or a longer adventure connecting multiple peaks and trails. For returning runners, it’s the perfect place to chase vert, build strength, or simply enjoy one of San Diego’s best trail systems.
