Looking for a trail that's perfect for everything from easy recovery miles to marathon training? This week's Friday Trailhead takes us to the beautiful trails surrounding Lake Miramar.

Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning for another lap around the lake, Lake Miramar has become a favorite destination for San Diego runners thanks to its scenic shoreline, wide runnable trails, and endless opportunities to log quality miles.

While many people know the paved path that circles the reservoir, trail runners know the real hidden gem lies just above it. The dirt trail that parallels much of the lake provides a softer running surface, rolling terrain, and spectacular views of the water while keeping you connected to nature. Add in the surrounding connector trails and hills, and Lake Miramar becomes much more than just a loop around the lake.

For first-time visitors, it's one of the easiest places in San Diego to enjoy trail running without worrying about technical terrain or getting lost. For returning runners, it's the perfect destination for tempo runs, long runs, hill repeats, or simply enjoying a sunrise or sunset over the water.
