If you’re looking for a trail that delivers a steady climb, big views, and a no-nonsense workout, it’s time to hit Iron Mountain Trail. Whether it’s your first time or a return trip, Iron Mountain is one of those go-to routes that always delivers.

Iron Mountain is known for its smooth, gradual climb that makes it one of the most runnable uphill trails in San Diego. The wide dirt path allows you to settle into a rhythm, making it perfect for tempo efforts, steady climbs, or building endurance during the off-season. The payoff comes at the summit with sweeping views across North County that make every step worth it.

For first-time runners, this is an ideal introduction to climbing on trails without overly technical terrain. For those coming back, it’s a reliable benchmark — a place to test fitness, push the pace, or simply enjoy a strong effort on a familiar route.

Trail Bonus: The Ellie Lane trail is back to being runnable!! This trail gives runners a great alternative to mix things up — whether you’re looking for a quieter route, a longer approach, or a different way to experience the mountain. It’s a perfect way to turn a standard out-and-back into a more dynamic run.
